Strength training with our Strength for Life programs for older people can help you to stay active and independent as you age. Our training includes using weights – like hand weights, machines or just your own body weight – to build muscle strength and endurance. It can help you to stay active and independent with everyday activities like shopping, gardening, climbing stairs and playing with the grandchildren; prevent or manage chronic conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease; manage your weight; improve your posture, balance, coordination and flexibility; and build confidence and self-esteem.
COTA Victoria promotes health and well-being for seniors, including enhanced quality of life and increased community participation. Programs include Seniors' Week celebrations, cycling groups, friendly social visits, exercise programs and 'Older Men: New Ideas' (OM:NI) discussion groups.
Seniors Festival celebrates seniors each year in October. Featuring more than 1,000 free and low cost events statewide. Free public transport for Victorian Seniors card holders for the festival period. The full festival program is available from September onward from councils, libraries, neighbourhood and community houses and all Coles outlets.
