Telecross is a service that provides the elderly and housebound with a reassuring daily phone call to ensure that they are safe and well. If this call goes unanswered an agreed emergency procedure will be activated and help arranged if necessary. Telecross calls are made by trained volunteers daily at an agreed time that suits the recipient of the call. Telecross provides peace of mind to clients and their families, and allows the elderly and housebound to maintain their independence for as long as possibles. Telecross also has the added benefit of providing a degree of companionship and contributes to a decrease in the sense of isolation many people experience.

The Pets of Older Persons (POOPs) program assists socially isolated elderly people in NSW by offering assistance with their pets in times of crisis. The POOPs Program aims to keep pets and their elderly owners happy, healthy and together in their own homes for as long as possible. Home visits can help with pet care, and temporary foster accommodation can be offered if a pet's owner needs to go to hospital.

Red Cross provides regular telephone calls to people who have little or no social connection with other people. Friendly volunteers call participants at an agreed time, generally once a week, for an open ended chat. Participants are matched with volunteers based on their interests, hobbies and availability. Phone calls offer a connection to the community providing regular contact with the same volunteer. People receiving calls speak of the companionship and friendship they feel from having another person to talk with.
